Ed Bates
Funeral services for Mr. Ed Bates, age 84 of Piedmont passed away at Gadsden Regional Medical Center June 4, 2010. Mr. Bates was born on June 3, 1926, the son of the late John & Lila McCollum Bates. Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his wife, Mary F. Bates, a daughter; Brenda Brooks (2007), two brothers; Lewis & J.T. Bates, six sisters; Irene Sandstrom, Inez Ford, Lucille Livingston, Ester Gossett, Mae Reynolds, Ida Gross. Mr. Bates was a member of the Lozahatchee Mason Lodge #97, Lions Club, The Methodist Mens, & Spice of Life. Mr. Bates honorably served in the United States Army during WWII. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Bates; one sister, Mable Herring of Piedmont; two grandchildren, Rebecca Sharek & Johnathon Greenleaf; two great-grandchildren, Emily Sharek & William Sharek, several nephews and nieces also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Bates will be conducted on June 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.from Folsom’s Heritage chapel with Rev’s Gary Brown & Kip McClurg officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Frank Wofford Sunday School Class. Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel M. Collier, age 69 of Mrs. Collier was born on December 20, 1940, the daughter the late Jack & Josephine Martin McGatha. Mrs. Collier was preceded in death by her husband; Bobby Lee Farmer (1968). Survivors include two sons; Ricky Farmer & Eddie Farmer (Jennifer), one daughter; Sharon Parris (Jeff); two sisters, Edna Atkinson & Magalene Calbert; one brother, Odell McGatha, Six grandchildren and several nephews and nieces also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Collier will be conducted on June 6, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. from Folsom’s Heritage chapel with Rev. Bobby Kirk officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service.
